Background
We were awarded an HCBS grant to create a training program that caters to assisted and residential living providers who provide services to individuals with mental illness and substance use disorders. We all know that there is a plethora of training out there for providers that focus on populations such as developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, dementia, and frail elderly. Providers need education and training that is specialized to our growing population in behavioral health.
About the Program
This program consists of 13 online courses that can potentially lead to certification as a Certified Behavior Support Professional (C-BSP) granted through Deer Path Academy. Considering this is a pilot program (a program we are testing before the literal and professional launch), you have the privilege of making this program better and well-rounded by providing feedback and suggestions. Essentially, you are first in line to test the waters of this fantastic opportunity! With that said, at this time, this is a work in progress, and we appreciate your willingness and excitement to participate.
How it Works
The learner will receive an email shortly after registering to log in to their custom portal and program. Upon receiving that login email, learners will have 90 days to complete the program. After 90 days, the classes in the learner's portal will become inactive. After successfully completing all online courses, the learner will be directed to a detailed feedback survey regarding the program/courses. The feedback survey must be completed for the learner to receive the feedback bonus. After completing the online courses, learners can apply for the C-BSP certification/designation, which includes a certification exam and case study.
Feedback Bonus
The feedback bonus is paid to each learner upon meeting specific requirements. In addition, to earn the bonus, the learner must maintain or obtain employment in an HCBS-participating program (assisted living, adult family home, CBRF, etc.) within three months of program completion. The feedback bonus is in effect until grant funds are exhausted.
BSP Role
The role of Behavior Support Professional includes helping adults manage their mental health, and supporting them in their recovery. You can provide quality care for an underserved community. With a C-BSP you have the potential to work in residential settings, such as a CBRF and Adult Family Home that serves residents with mental illness and substance use disorders.
Is DPA Accredited?
At this time DPA is not connected to any state or national boards. DPA received funding through HCBS to create this program, as they recognized this as a need for these individuals.
